With world-changing supernatural aid at their disposal, the hero sets off on their quest. They cross the threshold from the ordinary world into the extraordinary world, where they can finally save the world from existential calamity and achieve greatness.
In contrast, the antihero finally ends their quest for greatness. They cross the threshold from the extraordinary world back into the ordinary world. They return home to where it all began, where they can reclaim the power that has always been theirs and finally be themselves.
This is not an act of turning their back to the world. It is their path to engaging in it more fully, and more powerfully, from a foundation of peace.
The hero returns home last, after their ordeal.
The antihero returns home first. And there, they find peace to rest in, goodness to draw from, genius to harness and express, and the actual ordeal that is theirs to endure.
