The act will include tighter restrictions on the use of plastics, a framework for Fiji to reduce its emissions to net-zero by 2050, the introduction of a carbon credits scheme, and more.
Fiji has become the first emerging market to issue a sovereign green bond, raising 100 million Fijian dollars, or US$50 million, to support climate change mitigation and adaption.
In an unprecedented action, Pacific Island national leaders called for “the implementation of an international moratorium on the development and expansion of fossil fuel extracting industries.”
