Global survey finds 86% of people worldwide back nature over GDP growth
A landmark study led by researchers at the University of Vermont analyzed responses from 1.2 million people across 130 countries and found that 86 percent prioritize environmental protection over economic growth. Published in Nature Communications, the findings also show 62 percent would support a global carbon tax to fund climate action. Support was equally strong in low-income and high-income nations, dismantling the long-held assumption that climate concern is a luxury of the wealthy.
