John Lennon "Imagine" tiling

Imagine -> Reality

Something very cool just happened! As many of you have probably noticed, in addition to current good news from around the world, I usually also include moments of significant social change from the past (labeled as “Remember”) as well as possible future achievements (labeled as “Imagine) related to the #1 good news story from that week.

The intent is to put the news of the day in a broader context. It allows us to see just how far we’ve come, to imagine just how far we could go, and to inspire anyone reading to help that come about. And through a more expansive view of time and history, perhaps that allows us to loosen ourselves from feelings of despair, hopelessness, and cynicism that are so prevalent these days and open up to a greater sense of possibility.

Well, for the first time ever, one of my “Imagine” entries has actually come to pass! Last year, I “imagined” India achieving 50% of its energy from non-fossil fuel sources in 2030. And now, it has already happened, five years ahead of time.

In a time when things feel heavy in the world, this was a nice reminder that so much of the change we seek is right at our fingertips and that what we imagine so can indeed become our reality.
